IELTS (INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an international standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speaker. It is jointly managed by the British council, IDP,IELTS Australia and Cambridge assessment English. IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian, Irish and New Zealand academic Institutions in the US and by various professional organizations across the world. No minimum score required to pass the test. An IELTS result and test report to issued to all test takers with a score from " band 1"("non users") to "band 9"("expert users") and each Institution sets are different threshold. There is also " band 0" score for those did not attempt the test.

Modules

There are two modules of the IELTS:
  • Academic Module
  • General Module

IELTS Academic Module is intended for those who want enroll in universities and others institutions of higher education and for professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who want to study or Practice in an English-speaking country.

IELTS General Training Module is intended for those Planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purposes.

The four parts of IELTS test -

  • Listening- (30 minutes)
  • Reading - (60 minutes)
  • Writing - (60 minutes)
  • Speaking - (11-14 minutes)
The total test time is : 2 hours and 45 minutes

LISTENING TEST (30 minutes)

It consists of four sections played on cassette taped in order of increasing difficulty. Each section might be a dialogue monologue. The test is played ones only, and questions for each section must be answered while listening, Although time is giving for students to check their answers.

WRITING TEST (60 minutes)

The Writing paper has two tasks which must both be completed. In the first task test takers write at least 150 words in about 20 minutes. In task 2 test takers write at least 250 words in about 40 minutes.

SPEAKING TEST ( 11-to 14 minutes)

The speaking test is a face-to-face interview between the test takers examiner.

The Speaking Test contain 3 sections-
  • Introduction and interview (4- 5 minutes)
  • Long run (3 -4 minutes)
  • Discussion (4-5 minutes)

READING TEST (60 minutes)

It has 3 sections and texts totaling 2,150-2,750 words there will be variety of question types such as Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) , Short answer Questions, Identifying information, Identifying writer's Views, Labeling diagrams etc.
